Electric Horse, a unique horse sanctuary and shopping experience
Electric Horse, where we aren't just a sanctuary for horses, but truly a home for them.
Electric Horse, where we aren't just a sanctuary for horses, but truly a home for them.
Here at Electric Horse, we have taken our love for horses, fine antique home furnishings, one of a kind, handcrafted and vintage clothing to create, through our sales, a fully self-sustainable horse sanctuary for blind, senior and abused horses.
A horse sanctuary, where the horses can truly just be horses, that are loved, cared for and given a chance at life, where they otherwise, would end up in the slaughter pipeline.
In 2018, at the age of 50, I found myself a lost and broken soul, filled with profound sorrow and a sadness that can't be put into words.
I was facing rare terminal diseases, my grandson had been parentally kidnapped, my son, diagnosed with a rare cancer and I had lost 2 of the most important people, in my life, that left me completely shattered and grieving.
I was lost and numb and scared. I had stopped living and was just existing.
I let go of my home, bought a 32ft RV and was going to travel the country working on my book of photography. I was desperate to find my way again, and the only thing I thought could center me, was the one constant love in my life, being behind the lens.
My first stop was a horse farm in the little town of Dahlonega Georgia. I had only planned on staying a month, but a horse named Blazer, blazed into my life, and forever changed my path. Blazer is the horse you see in the black and white photo.
He was starving to death, and for whatever reason, this beautiful proud, fiery horse, that was nothing more than skin and bones, decided that I was his person and that he needed to save me.
I wasn't his owner, I didn't have any food for him, but yet, everyday he showed up for me. he would wait for me at the gate. When I would go into the pastures to photograph the horses, he would shove them aside and make himself front and center and demand that I noticed him.
I definitely noticed him, but my time at the farm was going to be ending soon, and with my health issues, neurological, cardiovascular, skeletal, and the prognosis, I was pretty focused in on the rest of my trip and figuring out my death.
Blazer decided on his own, that none of that was going to happen, and he amped up his rescue mission, of me, even though he was the one starving.
And it worked.
This 27-year-old, broken down, starving horse, was like a jolt of electricity to this flailing heart and he got it beating again. Weak, but beating again, and then I met Goldie, a little Arabian, who was also being starved to death, and her little Arabian princess self, with all of her attitude, was that last huge jolt of electric that my heart needed to really get life, and passion, and love, pumping back through my broken soul.
Because of my bad heart, the fact that they use electricity to restart a heart, it's how the name "Electric Horse" came to be for the sanctuary, and in honor, of them. The true heroes of this story.
It is because of them, that I decided to spend the rest of my days on this earth, dedicated to these magnificent, magical, life altering beings and to make sure that even after I am long gone, they will still be safe and cared for.
